The history of our Restaurant

Let us introduce ourselves: We are the Makrigiannis family. For over 20 years we have been serving our costumers with specialties from Greece.

In 1983 the Poseidon was established by Vasili as one of the first Greek Restaurants in Bamberg. A venture proven to be successful, today the Poseidon is one of the most popular restaurants in the city.

A family business operated by Vasili, his wife Maria, their sonsHarry, born in 1988 and Christos, born in 1991 and cousin Angelo who has managed the kitchen for 17 years. Vasili and Maria personally attend to their guests.

Vasili and Maria met in Greece. Maria was born and raised in Australia. At age 16, she and her family moved to the Greek village of Ichalia, near Trikala in the Thesalien region. The area is well known for the Meteor monasteries, a favored tourist attraction.

In 1972 Vasili and his parents moved to Germany. The family first lived in Nuremberg and then moved to Bamberg.

The entire family is enthusiastic about soccer. During significant championships, televisions are set up in the restaurant for the convenience of our costumers and staff.

In 2004 the Greek team won the European championship. At such times, Vasili happily buys his guests a round of Ouzo.
